So it’s Sunday and I feel like it is the best day to do a recap, after all it is the last day of the week. Today I decided to do a recap about the cancellation of shows that broke my heart. So here it goes:
5. The O.C.
I don’t count the last season which was absolutely dreadful and actually made me glad that the show was put out of its misery. I’m considering here the first three seasons of the show where Seth got to go out with one of the most popular girls in school and mess it up several times. Three seasons in which we were able to see Marissa go from rich boyfriend to girlfriend to Ryan at some point to I don’t know who else. There was financial trouble, teenage drama, high society parties, crazy outfits… Gossip Girls is nothing when compared to this show.
4. Veronica Mars
I watched this show way after it was cancelled and, for some reason, I was convinced there was a fourth season. You can imagine my dismay when, after watching the last episode of season three, I realized there wasn’t. Specially because this is one of the few show where I didn’t feel it was approaching its end. There were so many possible story lines. Besides, choosing Kirsten Bell to play Veronica Mars was probably one of the best choices made on the TV world, she was absolutely great. Veronica was a really strong character and the mysteries she solved were always really interesting and well planned by the writers. I was really sorry that this show only got three seasons.
3. Boy Meets World
This show never stopped being charming, even after seven seasons. I loved watching the little adventures of young Cory and his friends. I enjoyed seeing him grow up and settle with Topanga. I certainly had a lot of fun with Eric, who became goofier and goofier throughout time. This show started as a family comedy and finished as such which is more than can be said about other shows which end up relying on drama to keep thing interesting. And when Cory, Topanga and Shawn said goodbye to Mr. Feeny in the last episode, I cried my eyes out.
I couldn’t leave this show out of my list. Like Veronica Mars, this is a show that I started watching after it was finished but this time, at least, I knew it was ten seasons and no t an episode more. I had spent years wondering what was so good about Friends and now I can say that it was absolutely everything. This show never stopped being funny. I still rewatch it and laugh with it. And seeing the gang leaving Monica and Rachel’s apartment (to me it will always be theirs, sorry Chandler!) and having one last cup of coffee in Central Perk was one of the saddest thing I’ve watched.
1. Gilmore Girls
I know a lot of people will disagree with me for putting this show on the first place but Gilmore Girls fans know what I’m talking about. This show never got the ending it deserved, mostly because when they filmed the last episodes nobody knew if the show was going to come back for one last season. And this show needed one more season to wrap things up properly. Luke and Lorelai getting back together in the very last minute of the very last episode was unfair to all the fans. I would have liked to see a bit more of what their happy ending looked like. I mean, I would have liked to see Lorelai in a wedding dress! (I’m a bit cheesy, I know) Or at least them actually settling down for good. Also breaking Logan and Rory up like that was pretty upsetting. It just didn’t seem to make sense that one minute Logan was all “I can factor you in my pro-con list and we will figure things out” and the next he was all “let’s get married and move to San Francisco and if you say no it’s over”. The whole last season was not thought out to be a last season and a lot of things felt rushed. In case you were wondering, yes, this is my favourite show of all times and I haven’t gotten over its cancellation.
The cancellation of a show you like is always upsetting but I hate the fact that half the time they make this decision when the season is already half way though. I understand it is because of the rating but these leaves a lot of good shows without a proper ending that resolves all the issues.
